Science Department Helps PTC Students

(2/12/2015) There are many opportunities to serve Christ that do not come in the typical manner we anticipate. Earlier this week, Dr. Helene Peters and her lab assistant senior Liz Foster were able to help a group of students from the Pinellas Technical College (PTC) in Clearwater. PTC has been providing quality vocational education, continuing education coursework, and commercial training to adult residents living in the greater Pinellas County area since 1962. The students that visited this day were enrolled in one of the healthcare programs offered by their school and ranged in age from 18 to 50. Their field trip to CCC was designed to acquaint them with our biological lab and to do some histology work with our microscopes. Dr. Peters, Liz, and their PTC instructor Mrs. Oakes all took part in the preparation, examination, and discussion of basic cell tissue. The students were excited to participate in the experience and to see firsthand the beauty of God's creation under the microscope's powerful eye.

For the most part, these students have never visited our campus. This opportunity incited many positive and encouraging comments and even some interest in attending the college in the future. In addition, Dr. Peters was able to assist another educational institution in our community and share the love of Christ through service to their teacher and students. It is our hope and prayer that future interactions will give opportunity to serve the public and to share Christ.
