For the fourth year in a row, the Clearwater Christian College Bell Choir performed live on the set of the local Fox Television Network during their morning news broadcast. For the Christmas season, My Tampa Bay Fox Channel 13 adds a special segment to their daily lineup to feature local groups who perform seasonal music. Their goal is to create a festive spirit for the season, to introduce their viewers to local organizations, and to promote upcoming Christmas concerts. Social Studies Education major Charity Nelson from Cortland, NY, was the official spokesman for the bell choir and was interviewed by co-anchor Russell Rhodes just prior to the choir's performance. Nelson handled Rhodes' questions like a professional, answering inquiries such as how bells were played, the challenges of playing in a bell choir, and Clearwater Christian College itself. During the segment linked to this news article, the bell choir played "Good King Wenceslas."
A special feature of this year's performance was the appearance of CCC's first lady, Mrs. Cathy Klem, who has been part of this semester's choir. In regards to their performance on live television, Mrs. Klem commented, "As a former music education major, I appreciated being able to re-live the musical experience in a classroom with some very talented CCC students. They were so welcoming of me and Dr. Casarow's leadership is highly respected by all. The FOX TV event highlighted our students' ability to play under pressure and at the same time enjoy the opportunity!" The remaining bell choir members are Faith Alexander, Alicyn Bradley, Melissa Campbell, Tatiana DaSilva, Francsico Feliz, Chad Karschner, Carrie Kirby, and Rebecca West. The Clearwater Christian College bell choir is under the direction of Dr. Pattye Casarow.
Two additional Christmas performances await the CCC music department this month. On Friday night December 5, the department will perform their annual Christmas concert called Christmas at Clearwater: Ornaments for the Season which will feature the various music groups from the college and a special sing-a-long time with Handel's Hallelujah Chorus. On Friday, December 12, at 5:00 p.m., the concert choir will travel to Orlando and perform in Epcot's Candlelight Processional. This is the second year for the choir to win an audition to perform for this program.
