(October 30, 2014) Dr. Mary Draper, dean of academics, announced the addition of a new Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction to our graduate school curriculum. This program is designed to support the classroom teacher with a deeper understanding of the theories and pedagogies associated with curriculum design and instruction, and to equip them with requisite knowledge and skills for service as effective classroom teachers with a philosophical focus on God's Word, regardless of the educational setting in which they are serving.

As with our other programs, faculty teaching in the Curriculum and Instruction program have experience as full-time teachers and maintain currency by observing and working in the schools in the Tampa Bay area. Courses such as curriculum and instructional planning and implementation, cross cultural diversity, human development and social dimensions of learning, and differentiated instruction help to form the curriculum.

The program is totally online, and candidates in the program may take two courses each semester. The terms are approximately eight weeks in duration, and courses are taken one at a time. The use of online discussion boards and Collaborate, a live-feed meeting with the professor and the rest of the class, add a dimension of community to the program. Teachers share experiences and learn from each other as well as the professor.

In regards to this program, Dr. Draper said, "We have been successfully operating our graduate school with our initial program in Educational Leadership since 2007. We felt that there was a great need among classroom teachers who simply wanted to stay in the classroom but become better equipped for the changes that naturally come in the field of education. Our master's program in Curriculum and Instruction will strengthen both the classroom experience and the school as a whole as teachers obtain further training in what they do best—teach!"

Applications for this program are being accepted for the 2015 spring semester. Go to Graduate School for further information and to begin the application process.
